The campaign aims at explaining what sepsis is and how to recognise the symptoms. You can discover the campaign (which is only in French and Dutch) via: https://www.health.belgium.be/nl/sepsisbe
Belgium has a national action plan against sepsis that will be rolled out in the coming years by the national sepsis coordinator. In collaboration with actors from the entire healthcare chain, regional governments and patients, he will translate the recommendations of the Be-SNAP report into concrete actions to achieve a coherent approach across the entire healthcare chain. The actions should increase knowledge and awareness, help prevent infections and safeguard the effectiveness of antimicrobial therapies, strengthen early detection, accelerate adequate treatment, take into account ethical issues and early care planning, and improve follow-up care for patients. In addition, we want to further investigate and follow up on the approach to sepsis through surveillance and research.
In 2026, the basics will start: increasing knowledge and awareness among citizens and health professionals. In the coming years, the plan will be rolled out step by step.
Recognizing signs of sepsis early is important to get treatment as soon as possible, because every hour counts.
